Laura Norvig's Baby Registry

Well, I haven't blogged here in seven months. Life keeps me busy. And who knows, it may be seven years before I blog here again, considering that we have a baby on the way!

I have a baby registry at Amazon.com, but it isn't very versatile. In fact, it won't even let me list items from Amazon's apparel stores, so I started adding some clothing items to my regular Amazon wish list.

I really don't NEED clothes at all, but for fun, we like clothes in non-traditional colors like purple abd black. I still need some warmish clothes in size 6-9 months.

A few brands I really love:

Hanna Andersson.

Zutano - Available at Cotton Tales on the Pacific Avenue mall, European Children's Clothing in Capitola, Outside In in Aptos. Or shop online through Olliebollen.com.

Another fun online store is The Kid's Window. Try a search for Newborn, Unisex to see some cute Elvis t-shirts!

Two other things I think are cute: overalls and high tops.

Anything made of organic cotton will be much loved and used. Here's a jumping off point for organic clothes, bath products, and natural toys. Cascade is a down-to-earth store with organic cotton baby clothes and baby care products.

More natural baby care products are available at Munchskins, California Baby, Burt's Bees, and Aubrey Organics.

Our crib is an Arm's Reach brand co-sleeper and only takes special-sized sheets which can be found here, here, or here. I definitely need these!

Another thing I could use is either the Lil' Wizard Change Station or this portable changing pad.

I would like some kind of carrier but haven't figured out which one will work best for me. Laurie gave me her New Native sling to try, but it's kind of big (extra large). I already have a Baby Bjorn carrier but have been cautioned not to use it for more than about 20 minutes at a time because baby's spine can't handle it. I think I would like either the NoJo Baby Sling or The Ultimate Baby Wrap (these are on my Amazon baby registry). There is also the Maya Wrap. There's a site called Kangaroo Korner that recommends and compares carriers.

By the way, for anyone shopping around online, tryFroogle. It's a part of Google that searches only products and allows you to sort by price or by best match.

WHAT NOT TO GET: Through the kindness of friends and strangers (Literally! Special thanks to Millie Laykin's client Clare, Kris Norvig's neighbor, both of whom I've never met! Thanks also to Laurie Howard, Tia Andersen, Peter, Kris, and Gerda Norvig), I've already obtained many, many items, including lots of sleepers and clothes for the first six months, some blankets, a Baby Bjorn front-carrier, Baby Einstein DVDs, a baby bath, stroller/car seat combo, bigger kid stroller, rocking chair for mom, multiple gymini type things (lay on the floor and stare at the toys), bouncer seat, Avent bottles, sterilizer, warmer, "my brest friend", Medela pump, six months of diaper service.
